The State of Our Nation: 1619-2021
February 10, 2021
This fury and rancor will be our downfall
they insist our dissent fans the flame
but we can’t burn resentment or bury the blame
They pretend to build bridges and answer our call
though their answers give rise to a wall
the past is forgotten, or so they proclaim
but this hatred was never part of the frame
that gave liberty and justice to all
Freedom, our victory and our defeat
Courses deep through the veins of our nation
For we always had the world at our feet
Since the days of that first declaration
But we overlooked the fractured concrete
That made a dangerous, unstable foundation.
